Rising to the west of the walled garden, a spiraled mound of lavender provides a panoramic view of Reed Creek Farm. Although its purpose is purely decorative, the mound developed from a practical need. The front yard and driveway of the main house had to be re-graded to address drainage problems in the basement. Rather than hauling away the asphalt from the driveway, Bob Simmons suggested creating this mound thus inspiring its nickname “Bob’s Folly”. Without a protective wall however, the plants on the southwest side fight for survival against the fierce winter winds.
